Communication, information and training activities during different phases of a volcano’s state (quiescence, unrest, eruption) are key to risk mitigation, improving hazard and risk awareness and maintaining long-lasting links and efficient communication among scientists, local authorities and residents.
This session aims at sharing experiences, issues and good practices in communication, information and training activities in these contexts, also highlighting the peculiar communication dealing with surveillance and monitoring networks outcomes. Experiences associated with recent unrest episodes and eruptions, such as those occurred in Italy, Iceland, and the Canary Islands, are especially welcome. Particular attention is given to initiatives that propose the integration of volcanic hazard and risk communication within Earth Science academic programs. A 15-minute slot of this session will be dedicated to a round-table discussion on the key outcomes arising from oral and poster presentations.
